Everyone’s favorite sandwich spread is on the menu, but this time, there’s a little something extra. Grab an eighth of your favorite cannabis strain, set up your kitchen space, and get to cooking—we’re about to make the ultimate in homemade edibles.
Homemade Cannabis-Infused Edibles
To make our homemade Nutella-style chocolate spread, you have to start with the most important ingredient: marijuana-infused olive oil. It’s a delicious way to extract THC from your cannabis product of choice, and we’ll use it as the basis for our nut-free Nutella.
How to Make Marijuana-Infused Olive Oil
Makes 1 cup. You will need:
- 3.5 grams (1/8 oz.) of your favorite cannabis flower strain, or 1 gram cannabis concentrate
- 1 cup olive oil
- Baking sheet
- Large pot
- Jar (no lid needed)
- Jar (with lid)
- Cheesecloth or fine-mesh strainer
If using cannabis flower, spread it out into an even layer on a baking sheet.
Heat the oven to 250F. Bake the marijuana for 1 hour, then let cool. Grind into a coarse powder.
Place any heat-resistant item (such as a silicone potholder or a metal ring) so that it rests at the bottom of the pot of water. Place your jar on top of this item, to prevent it from touching the bottom of the pot. You want the water surrounding the jar on all sides, without getting inside the jar itself. Place it on the stove on low heat. Keep an eye on the water and lower heat if it begins to boil.
Add the toasted cannabis flower or cannabis concentrate (whichever you choose to use) into the jar. Pour the olive oil over your cannabis, then leave it inside the hot water-filled pot for 2 hours at medium-low temperature.
Strain the olive oil mixture through a cheesecloth or fine-mesh strainer and into a clean jar. Seal the jar and store your cannabis olive oil in a cool, dark place.
How to Make Marijuana Nutella With Your THC Cannabis Oil
Once your cannabis-infused olive oil is strained and ready, it’s time to start making your Nutella-style spread. Whether you prefer to drizzle your chocolate spread over ice cream, spread it on a Fluffernutter sandwich, or eat it straight out of the jar, this nut-free recipe is perfect for your needs.
Inspired by chef Adeena Sussman’s excellent recipe, our edibles recipe skips the use of harmful ingredients like palm oil and sticks to antioxidant-rich dark chocolate, authentic vanilla extract, and soothing cannabis. It’s delicious and allergy friendly!
Makes around 1 ½ cups. You will need:
- 1/3 cup water
- 2/3 cups sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- 1 cup chopped dark chocolate
- ¼ cup cannabis-infused olive oil (see above for recipe)
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- Jar with lid
Combine the water, sugar, cocoa powder and salt in the saucepan.
Place on medium heat until boiling, then reduce to medium low and whisk for 2–3 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens. Turn off the heat.
Add the chopped chocolate, cannabis olive oil, and vanilla extract to the mixture, then whisk until the chocolate is melted and the texture is consistent throughout.
Transfer the mixture into a clean jar and refrigerate.
To use your cannabis-infused chocolate spread, let soften at room temperature for half an hour to make it easier to spread or drizzle. It’s delicious when spread on toasted slices of homemade banana bread, added to a tasty milkshake, or stirred into oatmeal for a wake n’ bake morning treat.
